What Does it Really Mean to Be an Empowered Woman?

"Women Empowerment" is trending everywhere on social media right now, but what does it really mean for us?

First, don't feel intimidated by it. Empowerment isn't exclusive to the rich (hindi lang 'to para sa mayayaman). Regardless of your background or bank account, empowerment is a mindset and a way of living.

It means having the agency to do what makes your life better and the courage to pursue your personal goals. It’s about standing on your own two feet and not relying on others for your worth or survival.

History shows us how restricted women used to be—silenced, unable to vote, and excluded from leadership. But thanks to the fearless women who fought before us, those days are over.

Being empowered today means owning your life—especially your financial independence. An empowered woman has the freedom to make her own decisions, live her own life, and reward herself with the things she desires without needing anyone else’s approval.

I have witnessed occasions of this in very common places like in the grocery.

Walking down the aisle and passing through this couple, the woman wanted to buy something in the toiletry section, and she whispered to the person she was with if she can include this in their grocery cart, the guy declined and said, "sabon na naman?". Even if I did not look at the face of the woman I know what she felt that time. I have witnessed situation like this and it is sad.

I was in her shoes decades back. Yes, the same scenario and the feeling of being dependent even for a small thing.
Not anymore, I can say that I eventually regained that power in me to be independent. To become worthy of things I like and I need. Financially, I can say that I was able to turn my tables to 360 degrees twice!

Empowering myself, took time, it is not a one time thing or a magic. You yourself needs to make it happen. Start on the simple thing in your life and eventually you can go forward to the independence, believe me!

I hope one day you can say to your self that you are one empowered woman!
