How to Improve Your Health with Dental Hygiene

You hear about dental hygiene at all times and how critical it is. But did you know that because of the effects it has on your teeth and gums, it is not just important? Dental hygiene is also important because of the health effects it has on you.


First of all, what's oral hygiene? Dental hygiene is cleaning your teeth every day with fluoride toothpaste that has been approved by the American dental association by brushing your teeth at least two to three times daily. At least once a day, you will need to floss your teeth to make sure you remove plaque and any debris that may be stuck between your teeth. Having a healthy diet and visiting the dentist for daily examinations is another aspect of dental hygiene. It is all part of oral hygiene.

Your health is more affected by dental hygiene than you thought. If you do not regularly brush your teeth, plaque will form. Plaque is a type of bacteria developing right above the line of your gum. The plaque will turn into tartar if you do not keep up with your dental hygiene by brushing and flossing every day. The only way to get it off is to go to see the dentist until the plaque develops to tartar. Your dentist has a method to take the tartar off, called scaling. You can develop gum diseases, such as gingivitis if the tartar is not removed. It could turn into more extreme periodontitis if you develop gingivitis and do not get it treated.


Periodontitis is a severe type of gingivitis that is a damaging stage of infection. The damage involves bone weakening, loosening of teeth, or even loss of teeth. Recent studies have also shown that periodontitis can be related to strokes, diabetes, and heart disease.

Due to inflammation in the mouth, periodontitis can lead to strokes, diabetes, and heart disease. Inflammation in the mouth contributes to the increased development of white blood cells and proteins that help combat infections. A negative side effect is caused by the increased development of white blood cells and proteins. The detrimental side effect is that inflammation not only triggers inflammation of your gums, but the infection that causes it gets into the bloodstream, and the inflammation is brought into the arteries. Causing inflammation in the arteries makes them more susceptible to cholesterol and fat deposition. Cholesterol and fat accumulation in the arteries is what contributes to heart attacks and strokes. Studies have shown that people who have more plaque in their mouths and bacteria have a greater risk of heart disease and strokes.

You will also need to make sure you keep up with your oral hygiene if you have a current heart problem. Your health can be influenced by dental hygiene. For example, if you start bleeding in your mouth and your gum bacteria get into your bloodstream and remain on the irregular valve, a severe infection may be caused.


Aging is also a factor where your dental hygiene is affected. You would have to have dentures or you might have oral infections if you do not take care of your teeth now. Weight loss or malnutrition may be caused by having oral infections or dentures that do not fit well.
