How to Make your Old Watch Look New Again

The other day I was checking on my dresser and had the time to look at my watch box. Apart from my everyday wear watches for work and for other occasions I have this watch box where I store my rarely worn watches. To my surprise, I have this old leather strap wristwatch that has been sitting for a couple of years or so. I remember placing it there due to the worn-out strap. 

I had this watch for around 15 years old or so, it was given to me as a gift. Although this is categorized as a men's watch because of the size of the dial or the face, this can be worn unisex. 

You can see in the photo the combination of the gold, white, and the leather strap complement each other, looking at it as a simple dress watch yet an elegant piece because of the gold bezel to the crown down to the lug ends, including the hands with the hour and minutes with reflectorized ends.

I was able to have the old worn-out leather strap replaced yesterday and I glad to find an almost exact color and style.

Upon checking on the display I automatically saw the display from the third layer in the stall. My initial pick was almost the same as the old one but it was a little bigger in the length of the lug.  

Options were shown to me and after a few mix and match of colors, from tan to black to a colorful red I retained to get the nearest color and style as the old one.  

As you can see the condition of the worn-out leather strap excuse me because it looked a bit nasty with the grim on the leather strap. But it did serve me well for more than 15 years! I also retained the original buckle. The clerk also offered to replace the old spring bar as it slightly bent already. 

What I got was the Asprey Veloci style, Horween genuine leather. The pair of the strap is Php950/ US$20. 

I can wear my watch again looking like new, although there are minimal signs of scratches on the glass and on the side of the bezel, it still looks classic and chic. 

Btw, this is an automatic watch, no batteries needed for replacement. Automatic watches will work and charged by movement. Every morning when I wear this I need to check the time and date, I have to wind it up and update it. This I guess is the disadvantage side of an automatic watch.

Also, I have read that if you are not going to wear this kind of watch for a period you need to manually wind it every two weeks.

How to make your old watch look new again? 

1. Replace old strap to a new one.
2. Clean the bezel or the case of the watch by using a damp cloth with liquid or gentle soap. 
3. Always wipe your watch after use to dry off the water, sweat, or any other liquid residue.
4. Avoid applying chemicals to the leather straps. 
5. Polish gold strap with desired polish cleaner.
6. If battery-operated, make sure the battery is not leaking to prevent the mechanical damage.

Grilled foods are one of our favorite dishes at home, grilling is a simple way to present a meal and yet how it is being prepared and meticulously cook will bring out the delicious flavors of the meat whether its chicken, pork, beef or seafood.

Last week, I was invited to attend the soft opening of this new Tex Mex restaurant in Harbor Point Mall. The place is called Fiery Style Restaurant. The restaurant is a franchise outlet located at Harbor Point Ayala Mall, Riverwalk Area, in Subic Bay Freeport Zone. 

The event was held at around dinner time when I arrived in the restaurant the place was almost full with customers. Along with the new friends that were invited, the blessing of the restaurant was held too.

 

Their food specialties are grilled food and Mexican dishes. When I saw their menu and their best selling dishes, I thought about home!  Added to it, I was craving Mexican food at that time. So, I was in for a real treat.

What is the hype about the products of Avocadoria.ph?

I have been seeing posts about this new dessert craze in town, the Avocadoria.ph! No doubt I got intrigued and I jumped into the hype, I gave myself a treat and tried it. I went for the 12 oz. Avocado Lover for Php125, they also have this 8oz cup for Php110. Why not add a little to get more, right? 

Since it was a little early the time I went there I was the only customer in line. Upon looking at their products posted within the stall, customers will surely be invited to buy one. The photos were inviting to look at especially to people who love avocado fruit, I for one. 

This is their Avocado Lover layered with crushed Graham crackers, soft-serve ice-cream, tapioca pearls, milk, chunks of avocado fruit, topped with chia seeds. 

My verdict...the dessert cup doesn't have the taste of avocado fruit as I expected, most especially the soft-serve ice cream, it does have the green color that resembles the avocado fruit, but it doesn't taste avocado at all. The time I've tasted the avocado fruit was from the chunks on top of the ice cream. I expected the tapioca pearls to be chewy but it isn't. The dessert is a little too sweet for my taste.  

Will I buy again and try again other products of Avocadoria.ph? The answer is maybe, I might try some next time, but I would lower my expectation next time. 

What does it mean to be tax exempted?

A week ago my daughter was asking me about a topic regarding tax, this was assigned to her to discuss in the classroom. For a teenager, the word tax can go as simple as the additional payment on top of the basic amount of the things she purchases.

In an in-depth meaning of the word tax:

"Tax is a compulsory financial charge or some other type of levy imposed upon a taxpayer (an individual or legal entity) by a governmental organization to fund various public expenditures. A failure to pay, along with evasion of or resistance to taxation, is punishable by law. Taxes consist of direct or indirect taxes and may be paid in money or as its labor equivalent. The first known taxation took place in Ancient Egypt around 3000–2800 BC"

Aside from personal payments such as buying goods (food, medicine and, supplies), companies and sellers of goods are compelled to pay their taxes, declaring the capacity and the generated income of the business, this will be the basis of how the tax will be computed. An ordinary consumer and the business consumer. 

What is sales tax- "Sales tax is sometimes described as a "consumption tax" and is levied on goods and services purchased from businesses. Not all states require the payment of sales taxes, and those that do set different tax rates for specific categories of products." 

In addition to tax payment, a certain business or entity can be exempted from paying tax, this is called sales tax exemption. This varies from country, state, and location. A good example case is the Wayfair sales tax exemption, in this article, a guide is given to answer questions about "enforcement of South Dakota V. Wayfair, that is collecting and remitting sales tax to states."

• Tax exemption is the monetary exemption of persons, people, property, income, or transactions from taxes that would otherwise be levied on them. 
• Tax exemption generally refers to a statutory exception to a general rule rather than the mere absence of taxation in particular circumstances, otherwise known as an exclusion. Tax exemption also refers to removal from taxation of a particular item rather than a deduction.
• International duty-free shopping may be termed "tax-free shopping". In tax-free shopping, the goods are permanently taken outside the jurisdiction, thus paying taxes is not necessary. Tax-free shopping is also found in ships, airplanes and other vessels traveling between countries (or tax areas). Tax can go broad to understand and apply, every information will depend on the status of the taxpayer. A taxpayer can also consult professionals such as a bookkeeper and an accountant, who can handle and manage your financials. You don't want the government seized you for illegal non-payment or underpayment of tax called tax evasion. This is a criminal act that can land you to jail for five years or so depending on the amount being evaded. 

There are accounted personalities with tax evasion cases and some have been brought to public awareness. That is why this is considered a serious case not to look out for.

My daughter had the basic grasps of the topic she discussed. She told me that she tried to go as simple and easy to understand words and even translated some to a layman's terms, she also made a simple box and arrow illustration that she presented to the class. Some questions were asked to clarify some areas and the teacher did assist her with some answers. I am convinced that at these early age kids at school need to learn this topic, this will give them a better understanding of how buildings, infrastructure and, housing and medical condition underprivileged people are sustained.

I submitted my reviews from these batch last week, and, guess what, just now my points got reverted to my account, upon browsing for sample products I have three items on my cart for purchase.
