What are Essential Oils - An Introduction to Aromatherapy

"Aromatherapy is a holistic healing treatment that uses natural plant extracts to promote health and well-being. Sometimes it's called essential oil therapy. Aromatherapy uses aromatic essential oils medicinally to improve the health of the body, mind, and spirit. It enhances both physical and emotional health."
A couple of years back I was introduced to essential oil therapy by a friend, back then the notion of aromatherapy as an added wellness cure to was the least on the checklist. And, because of the widespread information, testimonials and feedbacks through social media it became more popular and the demand for essential oils skyrocketed. Amidst the demand, the pricing of essential oils varies from brands and the kind of oils placed in the market.

So what's in essential oils that everyone has been crazy about?

I am going to feature a brand of essential oils that is in the market today, and I was lucky to be able to test their samples. The trial kit comes with three essential oils (Lemon, Lavender, and Peppermint) they also added two sachets of doTerra Deep Blue Rub and one- 2ml Deep Blue essential oil. Along with the oils, they also provided their updated and revised 2nd edition Essential Oils Simplified, with over 400+ natural remedies to common conditions.

The Road to a Natural Lifestyle with Essential Oils
Jenni Wilson has been with doTERRA for 10 years. Both she and her husband Mike are in the medical field. Her husband is a medical doctor by profession and her on the other hand, studied natural medicine specializing in herbs and essential oil. For Jenni and Mike, using both approaches — the natural and scientific — has been working positively for their family.
Their goal from the very beginning has always been to help by educating people with the wonders of natural medicine and how it is useful in everyday lives. For one, it plays a big role in preventing illnesses that required medical attention and it is generally cheaper compared to medicines manufactured by big pharmaceutical companies.
When she joined doTERRA during the very first years of the company, she is certain that the company’s mission and objective are always in line with her advocacy.
doTERRA today is the largest essential oil company with $1 billion in assets and with an office in 16 countries, including the Philippines. They have a wide range of essential oils with various uses and functions.

On Essential Oils
What we know now as essential oils generally come from plants. Many of the plants we have contain powerful compounds that are highly concentrated and potent. These compounds are the “oils” that give plants the aroma and protect them from harsh environments.
The use of essential oils has been a long-time tradition that steamed from the many ancient civilizations. These essential oils were extracted from plants and were used as a medicine, beauty aid,  and even in food preparation.
The process of extraction has changed throughout the years especially with the help of science. Most of the essential oils we have right now are extracted pure and free from harmful chemical ingredients.
Using essential oils is very easy. While there are courses that teach aromatherapy and the use of essential oils, with just your interest and a basic understanding of the safety needs and application, you can basically use oils to help you in your everyday life.

The doTERRA Way
With doTERRA, each essential oils are carefully distilled from plants that have been harvested at the perfect moment by skilled growers from around the world. Each of the oils was also carefully tested following the CPTG Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade® quality protocol.
Being one of the most trusted essential oils company in the USA, doTERRA continues to expand its reach in order to educate people from around the globe with the use of essential oil. The company also has expanded in the Philippines and have been providing a lot of training to those that want to take the route to more natural living.
Jenni, throughout the years, saw the company grow and help small farmers and growers earn by producing essential oils. She also saw many people the company helped with the use of their products.
Jenni is helping doTERRA expand its network in the Philippines by encouraging essential oil enthusiasts, moms, and even small entrepreneurs to get to know the product and possibly build their own business out of it.
Through this, Jennie believes, she is helping people have a stable income and at the same time, educating them on the natural methods to care for their families. She is conducting workshops for free on the use of essential oils. She is also an author, speaker, and wellness coach.
Jenni is the published author of a collaborative book by women bloggers entitled: “Trust Your Intuition: Twenty-five “Natural Confessions” from Influential Women Who Choose Healing Remedies for Their Families” which hit #1 on Amazon in the categories of Parenting: Family Health and Alternative Remedies: Herbal Remedies.

This coming weekend I added to my purchase list an oil diffuser lamp so I can put to test these essential oils I received, based on the article enclosed to get the most benefit of the oil is to diffuse it. Although, I already tested the back rub included in the package the other night and it was calming and soothing which I really like. It was easily absorbed without leaving a sticky feel.

I will update this post once I have the diffuser.
