Save Money As Early as Now, UCPB's Start2Save Junior Savings Account!

***this is not a paid post.

During today's generation, kids are exposed to things that are easy to reach. From technology and information to the most general things in life. Those things can be a great impact on their stage of growing up. Working parents like me can do so much to protect and guide them as much as we possibly can.

Education is the primary goal that we need to provide for our children to be competitive and can face the world as they venture out into the real world- we need to secure their future with a good education, that is a fact!
There are a lot of ways us parents can direct our kids to better education as they grow up. As early as they start going to school and knowing their potentials, we make sure that we can give more of what they need. Advance classes in specific subject tutorials such as English tutor-which my daughter took during her primary stage in school, it benefited a lot, it boosted her confidence to speak in public, in front of a crowd. This is just a part of how we can inculcate education for our kids.

Along with providing a quality and good education, we need to teach the children of today the value of money by introducing them on saving every peso they have and placing it in the bank.

I must admit when I was young I was so careless with money, and saving money was not my goal...not until I reach adulthood and more specifically when I had kids. True enough that money can be your passport to anywhere and everywhere. Nowadays, money can be hard to earn. It will take a lot of your energy, time and resources just to earn a single peso that is why when you have an extra keep and save it...a single peso will go along way when you save up.

That is why I introduced my daughter to UCPB's Start2Save Junior Savings Account and we opened up an account a week ago.

I chose this bank because of the proximity to my workplace and also it is our payroll bank and upon checking on their website the Start2Save requirements are very easy to provide unlike with some other banks that we inquired before. And, at the same time now that my daughter will become a teenager this year she now understands the concept of having an ATM card and a passbook.
Do you want to know the details of opening an account with UCPB?
Check the details below:

UCPB Start2Save Junior Savings Account

The savings account comes with an ATM card and a passbook so that the account holder can monitor their savings and transaction.

The account is open for 0-19 years old to submit;
  • One valid ID.
  • For 0-6 years old, bring one valid ID of parent or guardian.
  • Copy of birth certificate
  • 1x1 ID picture
  • Initial deposit of P100.
The minimum balance to earn interest is Php1,000.

Upon opening the account last week, the passbook with our initial deposit was given to us and we waited for a week for the ATM card to be released. Today I picked up the card along with the initial PIN which my daughter needed to change in the machine next time we visit or drop by any UCPB atm.

When my daughter arrived from school I hand-over to her the ATM card and the passbook and the excitement on her face! And, I told her will go to the nearest machine next time for her to change the PIN, and instructed her more on what to do.

This will be her step on saving money wisely and effectively, along with her mini piggy banks and coin banks she has in her closet. :)

A Wise Mom to a more wiser daughter.

Youth surfers share Coke vision of a World Without Waste- The Circle Hostel wins Coke Barkada Awardee for ‘eco-bricks’ project

Protect, prevent and be knowledgeable about how we can save our environment, our world. Doing small things within the community through educating the youth and inspiring them to do good by reaching out. I am glad that an Aeta community here in my beloved Zambales is in partnership with this goal. Read more below...

Coca-Cola Philippines Public Affairs and Communications Director, Jonah De Lumen-Pernia (left) presents the Coke Barkada Award to The Circle Hostel environmental officer Fiona Faulkner, as both their organizations take a stand to create a world without waste.

Manila, Philippines – There are different reasons why organizations put up environment protection programs. For The Circle Hostel, the Philippines’ annual 1.88 million tons worth of plastic waste in the oceans was reason enough for its avid surfers and environmentalists to create their multi-award-winning program, The Plastic Solution.
The Circle Hostel environmental officer, Fiona Faulkner, accepts multiple awards including the Coke Barkada Award for their innovative environmental program, The Plastic Solution.

“We were encountering plastic debris in the ocean, in our surf, and we wanted to do something about it, something that was not only low-tech but also community-driven,” shared Fiona Faulkner, The Circle Hostel environmental officer.

With this in mind, they started The Plastic Solution, an environmental movement which aims to raise awareness of the negative effects of plastic waste consumption and reduce plastics by promoting a zero-plastic lifestyle among community members and repurposing non-biodegradable materials through eco-bricking.

The foundation of the project is eco-bricking, the process of stuffing PET bottles with non-biodegradable waste such as shampoo sachets, plastic straws, snack wrappers, and other single-use plastics. The eco-bricks are then used as simple alternative fillers in constructing walls, fences, benches, low-cost community structures, and more.

The Circle Hostel project shares the vision of a World Without Waste of The Coca-Cola Company with the goal of collecting and recycling one bottle for each that it sells globally by 2030.

The Plastic Solution starts by teaching volunteer partners the basics of eco-bricking then they provide outlets for eco-bricks and accept eco-bricks from volunteers through their collection partners. The organization has successfully constructed different low-cost builds with eco-bricks, including outdoor showers, walls and perimeter fences for their hostels, and an eco-brick base used for a reforestation nursery, in partnership with the Aeta community of Yangil, Zambales.

The Circle Hostel is among the winners of the 15th Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations (TAYO) Awards and is the recipient of the special Coke Barkada Award.
The TAYO Awardees beam with pride as TAYO Awards judges, including (4th from left, back row) Coca-Cola Philippines Public Affairs and Communications Director Jonah De Lumen-Pernia, National Youth Commission Chairman Ice Seguerra, Senator Bam Aquino, and YesPinoy Foundation Chairman Dingdong Dantes, join them on stage.

“The Coke Barkada is an award that we’ve been giving for the past 12 years to the group that best demonstrates the Coke Barkada spirit of collective volunteerism, working together for the community and living the value of positive action for change. The awardee for today is also fitting very well with our commitment as a company to a world without waste,” said Jonah De Lumen-Pernia, Coca-Cola Philippines Public Affairs and Communications director.

Aside from this environmental initiative, the Philippine business unit of The Coca-Cola Company also spearheads other advocacy programs such as the 5by20 Sari-sari Store Training and Access to Resources (STAR) Program, Minute Maid Nurisha supplemental program, and the Coca-Cola Agos Program.

Coca-Cola, along with the TAYO Awards Foundation, Inc. and its other partners, continues to recognize outstanding youth organizations which have made a positive impact on the country through innovative programs, returning with the 15th TAYO Awards.

The other 15th TAYO Awardees were the Tanay Mountaineers, Inc., Division Federated Supreme Student Government and Supreme Pupil Government of Cagayan De Oro City, Samahan ng mga Iskolar ng Compostela Valley, Fine Arts Major Organization (FAMO), Silid Aralan Inc., Bangsamoro Young Leaders, Sulbec 4H Club, UP Genetic Researchers and Agricultural Innovators Society (UP GRAINS), and Make A Difference Travel. #

SBMA, Thai firm OK feasibility study of major infra projects

SUBIC BAY FREEPORT – The Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Bangkok-based Mahanakorn Partners Group Co., Ltd. (MPG) for the conduct of studies on the viability of various infrastructure projects proposed for construction inside this premier Freeport.

SBMA Chairman and Administrator Wilma T. Eisma and MPG managing partner Luca Bernardinetti on Tuesday signed the agreement here that would allow MPG to conduct studies free of charge on infrastructure undertakings under the proposed “Greater Subic Bay Freeport Multimodal Transport and Access and Logistics Support Projects.”

According to Eisma, the proposed projects are in support of President Duterte’s “Ten Point Agenda” to accelerate infrastructure spending and pump-prime economic development through productivity, trade, and investment.

“The projects focus on the different infrastructure developments to be established in the Subic Bay Freeport Zone to catalyze its upgrading towards being a premier free port zone in Asia and the Pacific,” Eisma said.

“We want to help resolve congestion at the Port of Manila and ease traffic gridlock in the metropolis while shifting the momentum of development north toward the corridor of new wealth in Subic and Clark,” she added.

Eisma said that Subic and Clark are now at the epicenter of development as drivers of economic growth in the country.

Part of the study to be conducted will focus on the proposed construction of a 17.273-kilometer bypass road connecting the Subic seaport terminals directly to the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) to provide exclusive routes for cargoes brought in and out of Subic Freeport.

Another project for study is the proposal to build a 17-kilometer bypass road Subic seaport to Segment 7 of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), a two-lane cargo trucks expressway and railway system, and a 25-kilometer bypass road from Tipo Road in Bataan to Castillejos, Zambales en route to the Redondo Peninsula to open up a 3,000-hectare new industrial site.

The MOU also covers the proposed upgrading of the existing Subic Bay International Airport (SBIA) to world-class status, making it a viable alternative to the heavily congested Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), as well as a strategic transshipment and logistics hub in the Asian region.

Eisma said that under the agreement, the feasibility studies to be conducted by MPG on the proposed projects is free-of-charge and has no future legal or financial commitment from the SBMA.

The agreement between the two parties will remain in force for one year but may be extended upon mutual consent.

The Mahanakorn Partners Group is a holding company based in Bangkok, Thailand. It is comprised of several firms providing services on business consulting, legal and trade finance, as well as property management and development, among others.

How to Prevent Ant Infestation in Potted Plants?

This is one of my frustrations in life...to grow plants. If given a chance to wish for some things I wanted to have, is for me to have that "green thumb". I have been wanting to grow plants ever since but plants keep on dying on me. I have tried several kinds of easy to manage plants, but still no luck!

It's either it will dry up easily even I invest the time of watering it and putting it outside to air and absorb sun that it needed. Most of the plants I have tried are indoor plants, for the reason of space allocation and time since most of the time we are not at home. But, still, it frustrates me that I cannot grow a single plant!

About a month ago, when we went to the public market, we saw some potted plants, different types, and colors of succulent, with my eagerness and trying my luck spirit I bought one. It is not that special looking succulent plant but I convinced myself to give it a try.

For Php60 including the plastic pot, we brought home this succulent. The placed it outside on the second day until today and watering it twice a week. I think it is surviving in my care...I felt relieved and happy inside because I am noticing that the height is increasing with the leaves at the bottom layer is drying and falling out every time I checked it.

Until yesterday I noticed the there's a trail of red ants crawling at the base of the pot when I shook the pot ginormous amount of red ants fell from the pot including some soil...I felt sad. I am looking at this pot to die in the near future because of this infestation.

Now I am on the hunt for ways to prevent this, I will be looking at some articles for tips that I can use. I hope I am not too late to do this, if not this will break my heart, for a plant to die again because of ants!

I will update this blog post in the coming days of whatever remedy I can find online.

Thanks for reading. xoxo

Lucio Tan eyes PAL flying school in Subic Freeport

SUBIC BAY FREEPORT – Dr. Lucio Tan, chairman and chief executive officer of Philippine Airlines (PAL), is looking into the establishment here of a flying school under his flagship airlines brand.

The business tycoon flew into the Subic Bay International Airport (SBIA) here last Sunday for an ocular inspection of airport facilities, and was welcomed by Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Chairman and Administrator Wilma T. Eisma.

During the visit, Tan inquired about the state of facilities at the airport terminal, as well as other business potentials and tourism facilities that would complement an aviation-related trade.

“He was all smiles since the moment he landed at the SBIA on board his helicopter,” Eisma said. “The SBMA technical working group made a presentation showing the full potential of the Subic airport and I believe he was very much impressed.”

The PAL chairman, along with his entourage, closely inspected the Subic airport terminal, and asked for areas that could possibly be used for restaurants or passenger lounges.

Eisma, meanwhile, briefed him on the design and purpose of the terminal and pointed out that it used to accommodate local and international flights.

“Despite not being fully utilized, the SBIA equipment all work properly. We have kept them in tip-top shape,” Eisma pointed out.

The SBIA, which was completed in 1996 in time for Subic’s hosting of the APEC summit, boasts of a 10,000-square meter passenger terminal that has two gates, two jetways, a closed-circuit television system, and a 9,000-foot runway.

It also has a military ramp in the southwest area, which is used by US Air Force planes under the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) between the Philippines and the United States. Meanwhile, its midway ramp is being utilized by a flight school here for aircraft parking.

Tan and his group also went on a rolling tour of the Subic Bay Freeport Zone and looked into areas such as the Alava Wharf and the Cubi residential area.

The businessman, who asked if there were enough hotels that could accommodate the possible influx of airline passengers in Subic, was reportedly thrilled over the tourism sites that abound in the Subic Bay Freeport Zone.

Early this month, leaders of the Hong Kong-based Asian Business Aviation Association said in a forum here that the SBIA could be developed as a business and general aviation (BA/GA) airport to help increase people mobility, as well as boost business operations in the region.

Eisma said the agency is now aggressively promoting Subic as an aviation hub and is entertaining all possible options to maximize the use of its airport facilities.

“It is a challenge to us to get SBIA running. We’re all for these suggestions to turn Subic into an aviation hub that would cater to tourists, as well as traders because that would mean more business for the Freeport,” she added.

Life After Football

It’s easily forgotten within today’s professional era, but merely a decade or two ago the life of a retired footballer was drastically different to the comfortable early retirements and media appearances that we see today. In the professional era players, salaries allow them to live comfortably upon retirement, providing they have invested their earnings wisely during their playing days, something that NVA Entertainment’s Chris Nathaniel has stressed is vital for players in the modern game. As Nathaniel has said, “We look for clubs for players and take them through entrepreneurial lessons to live a worthy life after football.” Management like this wasn’t available just a couple of decades ago and upon retirement, many former players were faced with the prospect of having to get ‘proper jobs’, the majority having left education as young teenagers with little experience or skills.

David Hillier won just about every domestic and European trophy on offer whilst playing for Arsenal throughout the early ‘90s. However, following his retirement at 33, Hillier knew he needed to get a job to supplement his career earnings and so he applied to be a fireman in his hometown of Bristol. Given that Hillier had known nothing else but football since age 11, it’s not surprising it took him four interviews to get the job! He enjoys the familiar team environment and adrenaline rush of firefighting but as he himself has said, “I am – and always will be – a footballer.”

For former Blackburn Rovers and England winger Stuart Ripley, football got in the way of his plans to go to University and get an education. After gaining nine O-Levels, Ripley’s academic pursuits were put on hold when he joined Middlesbrough at the age of 16, and it wasn’t until his retirement at 34, following a stellar career, that he could pick up where he left off. Ripley quickly enrolled at the University of Lancashire where he would study law, later qualifying to become a solicitor. Stuart is now an aspiring law lecturer and wishes to provide legal and experiential advice to young players.

Former Wigan captain Arjan De Zeeuw can claim to have had the most interesting of post-football career changes. De Zeeuw put his medical career on hold to be a footballer, but upon returning to the Netherlands decided that a fast-track police detective programme was a better fit! ‘The Peacemaker’ certainly has the temperament for the job.

Subic Freeport to host Ad Summit 2018 #DIYyourROI #AdSummitPH2018

Another exciting event that will be happening this March 07-10, 2018 is the Ad Summit Pilipinas! This event will be happening in the heart of Subic Bay, with the theme DIY your ROI. I attended the Ad summit 2018 contract signing that was held last February 13, 2018, at the Mansion Garden, SBFZ. Read more below...

SBMA Chairman Wilma T. Eisma (second from right) signs an agreement for the staging of the 2018 Ad Summit Pilipinas in the Subic Bay Freeport with (from left): 4As President Sue Ann Nolido, Ad Summit 2018 Chairman Norman Agatep, and 4As Philippines Chairman Bong Pacia.

SUBIC BAY FREEPORT – The country’s biggest annual advertising convention will return here next month with the staging of the 2018 Ad Summit Pilipinas on March 7 to 10 at the Subic Bay Exhibition and Convention Center (SBECC).

Atty. Wilma T. Eisma, chairman, and administrator of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) on Tuesday with officials of the Association of Accredited Advertising Agencies (4As) for the holding of the said event here for the third time.

Eisma said the return of Ad Summit Pilipinas to this premier free port “again shows just how much the Subic Bay Freeport has become the top-of-mind location for the biggest event in the local advertising industry.”

She noted that the 4As convention had historically brought a record number of visitors to the Subic Bay Freeport Zone.

Under the signed MOA, SBMA will provide the venue and manpower needed in staging Ad Summit Pilipinas, with the agency’s Tourism, Media Production, and Law Enforcement departments providing key support to the organizers.

Eisma said that with an expected 5,000 delegates coming from various sectors, the Ad Summit “is set to further push tourism figures in Subic this summer.”

“And we will be ready for this,” she added, pointing out that Freeport establishments could accommodate the expected number of delegates, as well as their families who might want to tour the Subic Bay Freeport Zone at the same time.

Ad Summit Pilipinas 2018 overall chair Norman Agatep said this year’s event will be themed “DIY Your ROI,” with the original meaning of Return of Investment creatively repurposed into topics like “Return on Ideas”, “Return on Innovation” and “Return on Impact.”

He added that organizers already have a full line-up of speakers for the four-day event, who is expected to wow the crowd with lectures on new paradigms and innovative creative solutions.

“We are gathering some of the most brilliant minds in the world to enlighten attendees on how best to measure brand success in the fast-evolving marketing communication industry,” Agatep said.

“Monetary profit is no longer the only relevant metric today,” he added. “It’s time to DIY your ROI.”

Ad Summit participants are also expected to watch for the Kidlat Awards, which are given out by the Creative Guild of the Philippines.

Fast on its way to becoming the most prestigious creative advertising competition in the country, Kidlat recognizes campaigns and efforts that perfectly bring themes such as “DIY Your ROI” into reality.

Dani Harmer to star in Twelfth Night

Some actors just can’t shake off that one role that’s defined them. For many of the actors who have played James Bond, it’s been the role of 007; the cast of Harry Potter too are inextricably linked to their early roles. For Dani Harmer, that role has been Tracy Beaker, one which she has played on and off since her early teens.

RELATED: Celebrities of the moment - 2016

She first started playing the role of Tracy Beaker - one based on a character from Jacqueline Wilson’s book The Story of Tracy Beaker - when she was just thirteen. She reprised the role several times in Tracy Beaker Returns and The Tracy Beaker Survival Files, as well as appearing in a children’s sitcom called Dani’s House.

Since then she’s taken a break from regular acting, giving birth to her first daughter and returning to the stage in pantomime roles occasionally. She appeared on the tenth series of Strictly Come Dancing, on which she reached the grand final with partner Vincent Simone, before achieving fourth place overall.

RELATED: Clara Amfo on Christmas TOTP

Her career has, though, been defined by her CBBC roles - until now, that is. The actress recently revealed that she would be appearing in a new production of Twelfth Night at the Barnfield Theatre in Exeter. She’s keen to bring the joy of Shakespeare to a new generation.

She said: “We really want to make people fall in love with the play. It’s all about love and second chances, although it’s hundreds of years old, it feels like a totally modern story.”

RELATED: Celebrity speaker in focus: Richard Bacon

Dani will be joined on stage by Graham Seed - known to many as Nigel, from Radio 4 drama serial The Archers. He’s no stranger to Shakespeare but is excited to take on the role of Orsino: “Although people may be familiar with my voice, this is a great opportunity to present more physical comedy as Shakespeare's notoriously vain buffoon,” he said. “There will even be some slapstick- but I don't have to fall off a roof in this show."

The play is directed by Ian Berry, who says: “Sometimes people are worried they won’t understand Shakespeare and that it’s all too deep, but our principle aim is to show what an amazing experience live theatre can be- after all that’s why everyone in the cast fell in love with it.”

It’s certainly a departure from the roles that Dani has played in the past, but we’re confident this new chapter in her acting career is just the beginning. Who knows where we’ll see her next? You can find tickets for the production here.

If you’re interested in hiring Dani Harmer, you’re in the right place - she’s represented by top celebrity agents at MN2S. As comfortable in commercials as she is on stage and screen, she’d make a great brand ambassador for all sorts of products and services. Find out more about when Dani is available by contacting our agents today.

If you’d like to hire a celebrity but you’re not sure Dani is the right person for the job, get in touch - we have hundreds of talented celebrities on the books and there’s sure to be someone who fits the bill.

4 Reasons To Use a Front End Mask

When looking at a front mask for car protection, you want to make sure you get a custom fit. A loose, baggy mask will not help in the slightest at preventing contact with dust, moisture and debris. While car covers are great for parked vehicles, you should still consider an auto bra for when you want to be safe while on the road.

1. Protects Against Scratches

The front of a car is most exposed to exploding bugs and tire-tossed rocks. Chipped paint and a dinged grille can cost a lot to repair, so it is best to simply buy a front mask rather than deal with costly repairs. Car bras are often made out of resilient vinyl that is perfectly capable of deflecting small objects and preventing small dings.

2. Saves You Money

Protecting against minor damage saves you more than just hassle. It also saves you money in the long run. Constantly needing to re-paint and buff out dings can add up over the years. With a front mask, you pay once for the product and do not have to worry about scratches as often.

3. Preserves Resale Value

Even if you repair scratches and dings, that kind of damage can still show up on a report when you go to sell your car. You want to get the most out of your investment, so preventing damage will often allow you to ask for more money during the sales process.

4. Provides Stylish Aesthetic

A customized mask will complement the car’s lines beautifully and give it a sportier look. You will certainly catch the attention of passersby. The best part is that it will not hamper the functionality of your front lights.

The professionals at California Car Cover can make custom covers for any application. The company has a guarantee that these covers will never result in scratching, so call 1-800-423-5525 to learn more.

DITCH CHEMICAL ROMANCE FOR NATURAL LOVE THIS V-DAY WITH NOVUHAIR

Its Valentine’s month once again! A month full of seeking to perfectly express your love in beautiful and fabulous ways. This is because they want to ensure they're the apple of the eye of their special someone come the romantic occasion of the year that they will celebrate together.

So if you find yourself being whisked away to a charming place or have planned on a candle-lit dinner date with your beloved, you’ve got every reason to get all glammed up on Hearts Day! Why not? T’is a celebration of love after all.

Make a big impact by putting together a look that brings out the best in you. From your clothes and make-up to the tiny details that count, you have many options to get that stunning aura on V-Day.

Better start with the hair, which usually draws attention to a person. Per studies, a head full of hair indicates youth and health at its best. Power and stability, on the other hand, corresponds to a long, shiny tress. A bouncy bob means bubbly personality. Meanwhile, curly locks add to masculinity and femininity.

Gotta hair like them? Well, don’t lose hope if you ain’t have any. All you need is love. And what a better way if it comes out naturally to you. Taking good care of it should not be enforced, but rather a rewarding pamper for yourself. This applies, too, when choosing the right product for your mane.

Stay away from chemical-based ones. This is a “must”, especially when dealing with problems like shedding or thinning of the hair. Most of which contain parabens as a preservative, according to aesthetics and rejuvenation expert Dr. Cecilia Catapang.

“Through the years, as you use a chemical-based product, slowly and little by little, your body absorbs the parabens, which accumulate to significant levels, enough to induce what is called an estrogen-sensitive breast cancer,” she says.

Synthetic haircare products have several adverse effects because they are drugs. What you don't know about them might hurt you. So avoid it the next time you go over the counter for your supplies or ditch what you’re using today for naturally-made products because they aid in stimulating hair growth while maintaining its natural water, shine, and vibrancy.

Amid a glut of chemical-free hair solutions out there, Dr. Catapang recommends NOVUHAIR for its being natural and compliant to the ASEAN Cosmetic Directive, which means it doesn’t have paraben. In addition of its safety benefits, this topical scalp lotion specifically is the only hair growth product in the market containing 19 natural herbs, essential oils and co-factor nutrients working synergistically to help remedy hair problems from growth to vanishing.

NOVUHAIR helps rejuvenate, nourish and maintain moisture in the scalp and improve the overall appearance of the tress. Lastly, it’s more effective and safe solution to help remedy hair loss and promote hair growth.

Sounds like it’s time to shift to “nature’s answer to hair loss”, ladies and gentlemen. It’s time to start loving again your hair with NOVUHAIR to enhance or bring back the old “crowning glory” to look your best in front of your dearest, or turning the head of a potential mate on you this V-Day. Let the love begin!
