Featured Product: Tips on How to Season an Oster Iron Cast Pan

From our trip to Manila yesterday we got a set of new Oster cast iron frying pan from Handyman Store in Robinsons.

I grew up knowing this brand, from cooking ware and dining ware. I know a lot of you who loves to cook knows this brand very much.

I got this set on sale which made me decide right there and then. This three set of Oster cast iron frying pan originally costs Php 1295 and I got it for Php 906.50 that was 30% off!
I am so happy and excited for this frying pan set since cooking is what I love to do!

3-piece Oster cast iron frying pan

Pre-seasoned cast iron- heat and cooks evenly.
Optimal heat retention- for high-temperature cooking.
Pour- spouts- allow easy pouring.

Can be used for gas cooking, electric cooking, and oven-safe

Each pan is full-metal including the holder and they are so heavy! I tried this biggest size from the set this morning when I cooked egg and sausages for breakfast. The egg did stick from the edges of the pan but it got lessen when it turned for the sausages because the grease from the sausages helped coated the pan.

When I was done the cooking I googled more on tips on how to care for iron cast pan.
Since this is a pre-seasoned cast iron pan, to prevent from rusting every after use I need to use hot water and scrub it with salt. Some also recommend the use of liquid soap and scrubbing pad.

How to season a cast iron pan:
  • every after use make sure the pan is dry (towel dry or heat the pan in a stove in high-heat until water residue dry is gone)
  • use a paper towel damped with corn, canola or any other oil available the entire pan from inside-out.
  • place pan in an oven upside down and cook the pan in a heat of the oven until the oil evaporates.
  • store cast iron pan in a non-damp space to store the seasoning process. continue the process of seasoning every after use.
It makes consume much of my time in seasoning the pan but having a cast iron pan is an investment that can be pass on from generation to generation.

A Time for Joy and Celebration

Depending on what you believe in, Christmas time may have a different meaning for you. But one thing remains the same: Christmas is a time for joy and blessings. Christmas is also a time for us to reach out to our friends and family and wish them a Merry Christmas.

One of the most famous ways we greet other people is by saying “Merry Xmas.” Not everybody knows what it means: now you will find out.

The “X” in “Xmas” is actually the Greek letter “Chi.” It’s the first letter of the word “Christ” in Greek. So essentially, “Xmas” just means “Christ”-mas.

Thinking of Getting Your Home Insured?

Sometimes what we own is not just the physical aspect of owning it. It is how you will take care of that something to last and make sure you are safe. That is my way of thinking when we are planning to get a new home after years of house rental.

I need to get my home insured!

Owning a house is a big task especially for the first timer like me. But, one has got to do it or else everything will not fall into places the way you wanted it to be.

There were a lot of considerations that I looked at before I finally decided to pick on, what is the best insurance agency to get. Consider your location, the number of family in the house, pets, and lifestyle. This also led me to check out Kodig. Their home insurance by place along with the cheap insurance quote. They gave the best list of places and links for home insurance agencies.

Here are some of my questions on my list that were answered.

What home insurance provider you have?
-American Family Insurance

How much did it cost?
-$162 total premium

What you liked/don’t like about your provider?
-They bill a month in advance.

What kind of coverage did you get?
-Basic coverage:

Personal property- limits $16,000

Loss of Use- actual loss sustained within 12 months

Fungi or bacteria - limit $5000

Deductible- $1000

-Section II coverage:
Personal Liability- limits $300,000 each occurrence

Dangerous dog and exotic animal liability- limit $25,000

Medical expenses- $1,000 each person

What kind of home do you have?
- Two-story house (4 bedrooms with 2 living rooms, 3 baths, and 2 car garage)

How old, how large etc?
- 2005 built and 2400 sqft

From the items above I would do some adjustments along with the increase of my premium. But for now, I am good with it. A piece of advice,

If you are planning or a new homeowner getting your home insured can get you to places safe and secured.

We Shopped for Fly Shades

We got pairs of Fly Shades and it is rocking our style!
Last month I and my daughter decided to check out some sunglasses since we need a pair. I also looked for some pieces online but the shipping cost got me and skipped online.

A had few pairs of sunglasses from this brand year back. Imaging the styles and color shade before? haha! I know you guys are familiar with this brand as it was one of the brands that came out on the market and you kind find them anywhere in the mall with their kiosk outlets.

This time I am so glad that I have my daughter with me helped me decide on what style and color to get, and I got her a pair too. My daughter gotta style too! Yep, she is starting to have her own swag when it comes to color clothing and style and sunglasses is one of them. No more cutesy and colorful character sunglasses for her.

Down below are the photos of our new pairs of Fly Shades.

I got this for myself after trying out different shade, color, and shape. We both voted for this blue with gold ensemble wayfarer shade sunglasses.
It is lightweight and it compliments my new hair color when worn. I also love the gold which gives a more sophisticated look into it. It can be worn over a dress or over jeans and shirt too. I will take a decent photo wearing the sunglasses and update this post for you all.
Btw, this pair cost a little pricey at Php410 ($8.20), compared to the rest because it's one of their new collection pieces on display. It comes with a pouch with bendable metal lock + a cleaning cloth.

For my daughter M, she picked this one because it's black and it looks good on her too. But, the color was the main reason why she decided to get it. A wayfarer shape sunglasses with brown-wooden style frame handle or temple. I will take another picture that will focus on the temple for an update here.
This one cost Php380 ($7.60), also comes with a pouch bag + a cleaning cloth.

A snapshot of us from my daughter's birthday dinner, just sporting our new Fly Shades.
Overall, we are happy with the pair we got and hopefully, this will last for a long time until the design and style wear off.
Any sunglasses shopping you did lately?

Considering Hair Extensions and Hair Wigs

Image result for hair sayings
"Life is too short to have a boring hair."

A woman's hair is her crowning glory. It defines a certain personality and even tradition that goes with every lock. For us women, we love how we wake up in the morning and see our hair the way we wanted it to be. Shiny, no frizz, untangled and wavy.

We resort to something that will make our hair look good, nice and beautiful when it comes to our locks. There are hundreds of things we can do to achieve that from do-it-your own by mixing natural and what we have in the kitchen to the most extensive hair-salon treatments. And boils down to this question, What does it take for you to achieve that long and beautiful hair that you can have every?

To achieve that dream hair we wanted is a part of investing in different hair products that are out there in the market. Product advertisements lure us from trying their so-called the right for your hair shampoos and conditioners. Going to the hair salon and have it colored treated would be sometime the last resort for it.

Aside from having a dull and boring hair every day, stress can be the biggest factor and result to thinning and balding of hair. Extensive balding can be stopped by going under surgery such as hair transplant procedure.

Personally, as what I have mentioned earlier I always rely on hair products that are available in the market. Having a long colored-treated hair, I always fix my hair everyday especially when I am at work. Depending on my mood I sometimes iron it when I wanted it long and straight. Curl it with the curling iron to have more body into it. I literally do everything with my hair from cutting, to coloring and fixing it every day. Rarely I go to the salon for have it professionally done.

Though I have a knowledge of what I can do to my hair, I sometimes feel that my hair looks bored and getting thinner. I don't have that amount of money for surgery which I don't think I'd be needing sooner. But it looks dull at times, this makes me look and consider to try out hair extensions and made eventually hair wigs too.

As of my readings regarding wigs and hair extensions mostly they are made from animal hair like horse and goats and some are making human hair for wigs and extensions too. I would consider and try one for myself and see if it will look good on me. I searched for cheap hair extensions online at omgnb and everything looks so nice and pretty.
omgnb is an online store that caters your personal and home needs. From their collection of hair extensions and hair wig, I saw some pieces that I think I can try on. Below are some of the hair extensions and wigs I am eyeing for on this site. Do you think I can get away with wearing extensions or wig? What do you think guys?

100% human hair and I love the color of this one, looks natural and my kind of hair color.

Two-toned ombre lace front wig with black to gray gradient heat resistant hair. This looks so funky and cool to wear.

Loose Wavy Nature Black Full Lace Human Hair Wigs 0

I really like this one, it looks so soft and natural. The wavy curls which are the in thing right now making hair in full volume. I can see myself wearing this one with a touch of golden nude brown, which is my current hair color.

This was taken a couple of months back and it is now longer and more striking in color from the color touched-up a few weeks ago.
Which among the chosen pieces above fits me and will look good on me?

A Guide to Learning Trumpet Instrument

Hal Leonard Essential Songs For Trumpet

Learning how to play musical instruments takes time and patience. You need to deal with a lot of learning, some are self-taught and some rely on music sheets or song books. Continuous and repetitive practice can enhance your knowledge with the certain instrument of your liking.
I find it very helpful to have a copy of the music sheet. For example on learning how to play the trumpet, there are lots of online shops that sell trumpet sheet music featuring hundreds of featured collection from past and present which you can choose from and learn.
As you go on learning you can mix it up and combine music from soul, rock, and ballad.
I can include this on my list as a gift for friends who love music and instrument.
As the saying goes "Practice makes perfect"

Look After Your Body After Pregnancy

Image result for new born baby

Pregnancy and birth should be an exciting time, but it can also leave you feeling exhausted and overwhelmed.
As well as the emotional impact, there are many physical changes that you will need to adapt to. Many women find that the first few weeks after birth are uncomfortable, especially if they are experiencing incontinence.
Incontinence can be difficult to manage, but with multiple incontinence products suitable for use after pregnancy, managing it on a day-to-day basis is a little easier.
You need to take care of yourself, as well as your newborn, so how can you look after your body post-pregnancy and birth?
#1 Rest and repair…
Your body is an amazing piece of machinery. It produces hormones to protect the growing fetus and when the baby is ready to be born, it sets off a chain of events that can only be marveled at. Providing we listen to our bodies, we can heal quickly after birth.
The greatest factor in healing post-birth is rest. You may not feel tired in the first few days as you ride out a heap of hormones – you will feel on top of the world!  However, you need to be kind to yourself. Rest when you can and when you can take a nap, do so.
Friends and family will be more than willing to help, so if they offer to vacuum, change the beds, clean the bath etc., let them and be grateful for all the help they are offering.
#2 Stay active
Rest is number one on your list but this doesn’t mean hitting the sofa and not moving for weeks.
If you are worried about incontinence or sometimes feel you don’t always make it to the toilet in time, you can do pelvic floor exercises to help your muscles heal.
Pelvic floor clench and release exercises should not hurt – if they do, please speak with your midwife, health visitor or doctor.
Perform around three sets a day of 10 repetitions each time. Clench your pelvic floor muscles, hold for a few seconds (30 at the most) and then release, making a conscious effort to relax the muscle.
Gentle exercise is also an important part of helping your body to heal and recover. Without overdoing it, try to stay active;
  • If the weather is kind, why not take a walk out, with your new baby well wrapped up?
  • Don’t lift items that are too heavy – pushing and pulling places the abdomen under pressure
#3 Eat well and drink plenty
A healthy lifestyle is essential, and when it comes to helping your body to heal, healthy foods are essential.
If you are breastfeeding, you will need to consider that these flavors will be passed on to your baby in your milk. Heavily spiced foods may not be such a good idea...
Eat little and often, and the same goes for your fluid intake. If you are suffering from post-birth incontinence, you may be reluctant to drink more fluids, assuming this will make the problem worse.
In many cases, increasing fluid intake can help to improve incontinence. It can be a problem caused by an irritated bladder. By not drinking, your urine will be more concentrated and this irritates the bladder even more.
Rather than drinking a lot more in one go, aim to increase your drinking of fluids – water is best – throughout the day. You may find that as you breastfeed, you need to increase your fluid intake. Ask your health visitor or midwife how much more you should be drinking.
Avoid alcohol, which dehydrates you and can make incontinence worse. Caffeine can also be an irritant to your bladder so cut out or decrease your consumption of tea, coffee, hot chocolate and some soft drinks.
#4 Spread out meals and low carb snacks
Your nighttime sleep routine will not be the same and this disrupted sleep can make you feel hungry. Snacking on high sugar and high carb foods can make the problem of hunger worse.
Spread out your meals during the day and if you are snacking in between, opt for healthier snacks such as turkey and cheese, vegetables with guacamole dip or hard-boiled eggs.
With your meals, eat small but often, spacing out your calorie intake over the course of the day. Bear in mind that we can often mistake hunger for thirst so if you feel what you think is hunger, have a small glass of water and wait 10 minutes before you eat anything. You may find the feeling of hunger goes away.
The first days and weeks of being at home with your newborn are exciting but daunting. Eat well, take plenty of rest and enjoy those first few precious days.

HARTMANN Direct are suppliers of incontinence products. With a range of quality products, there is a product for men and women, including a range of products suitable for post-birth incontinence.
